Black Spruce (Picea Mariana) is a member of the pine family that is found throughout the northern regions of North America. This is a slow-growing, upright tree that dominates northeast Canada and the Alaskan landscape, as it is not only hearty but tolerant of poor nutrient soils. While it is considered too small for timber use, black spruce is often pulped for smaller items such as chopsticks.
