Rosemary comes from the Rosmarinus officinalis plant, a small evergreen plant that is part of the mint family and native to the Mediterranean. The plant produces small green leaves, from which rosemary essential oil is extracted via steam distillation.
The use of Rosemary dates back to ancient times when it was considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians, Hebrews, Romans, and Greeks. In these ancient cultures, it was frequently used by healers. It is also said to have been used as a wedding love charm in the middle ages and has also been used at funerals as a symbol of honour and remembrance.
Best known for its applications in the culinary world, Rosemary provides a delicious addition to many dishes. However, its uses are far from being confined to cookbooks. When diffused, Rosemary is energising and settling. Applied topically, Rosemary promotes fuller, healthy-looking hair. Meanwhile, internal use helps to reduce occasional fatigue and nervous tension.
