The wintergreen plant is an evergreen creeping shrub that grows in coniferous regions. doTERRA Wintergreen essential oil comes from plants in rural mountainous areas of Nepal. The oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant, which are a rich green colour with a prominent central vein, via steam distillation.
Wintergreen essential oil contains a rare organic chemical called methyl salicylate that is only found in two plants across the globe birch and wintergreen. This chemical has strong soothing and renewing properties, giving rise to a number of uses and benefits.
