Essential Oil Classifications

Essential oils can be divided into different plant classifications. Oils within each classification share common characteristics, so understanding the attributions of each classification can help you to easily determine which oils will be helpful in different circumstances. However, it is important to keep in mind that every essential oil is unique and has its own fabulous set of benefits and uses.

Citrus

Extracted from the rind of juicy citrus fruits, citrus oils are wonderfully uplifting and detoxifying. Use these oils to reduce feelings of sadness, stress, and fatigue, and instead promote feelings of joy. Restore your energy, lift your mood, and enhance mindfulness and productivity.

Florals

Floral oils are natural essential oils, distilled from the petals or aerial parts of plants, and can nurture the body and mind with their calming and harmonising benefits. Use these oils if you’re feeling wounded, neglected, fearful, or worried. Replace emotions of frustration, depression, and isolation with a sense of reassurance, purpose, and love. Furthermore, floral oils offer anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and antiviral benefits.

Roots

As the name suggests, oils are distilled from the fibres that anchor the plant to the ground. They are delightfully centering and calming. Resins

Resin is a natural, sticky, substance produced by certain trees. Oils are distilled from hardened resins and used for their excellent restoring and strengthening properties. These oils can be helpful if you’re feeling stressed, abandoned, darkened, weak, or disconnected. Use resin oils if you want to feel unified, connected, grounded, nurtured, and awakened.
